I hope everyone’s new year is off to a great start. I haven’t been posting much of anything lately as I have been doing quite a bit of dyeing lately.
We just finished our first Virtual Vogue Knitting LIVE weekend. I’m extremely happy I purchased some of the additional equipment they suggested. And I’m really irritated with myself that I didn’t purchase some of the things they suggested. A new mic is definitely on my need list for next time.
The show colorway was a gorgeous grey/blue/purple mix. I am currently dyeing up the remainder of those orders. That was the great thing about the virtual event – I could do the colorway dye to order.
I’m also really happy that I asked my girls, Mandy and Jen, to be online with me. Their help was invaluable. I was able to talk and share about my products without worrying about the chat. They were great at linking patterns and putting colorways and yarn make-up in chat. I am truly blessed to have such amazing friends that believe in me and my business. Thank you with all of my heart.
Here is the show colorway that we called City Lights in memory of NYC and how we were supposed to be there.

What else am I cooking up?
In addition to dyeing up all of the yarn orders, I’ve started dyeing up some roving. I usually dye this stuff up in bulk once a year. Due to the pandemic, it’s kind of been sitting around waiting to be dyed. We don’t usually see a whole lot of interest in it, but I love to dye it up and see how it spins out. And I especially love how no two skeins are alike when people buy them and spin them. Some people will spin really thin and others will spit artsy. It’s so much fun to see what people come up with.
Here’s what they looked like when cooking and when they cooled off.
Unfortunately, when I checked them, they weren’t quite exhausted.

So, they are back to being steamed a second time with some additional acid. I always check to make sure everything I dye is fully exhausted before selling it. You shouldn’t have dye on your fingers when knitting or spinning.
Sometimes, you may get some bleed when soaking if they are really saturated colors. Even if I make sure they are fully exhausted, sometimes those bold, dark colors want to bleed a little. Now, they should not completely turn the water a dark color. But, a little tinge would be normal. I would suggest using a color catcher in your soak for bold colors.
That’s it for now, off to dye some more yarn and roving.
